Bowls Bulletin: Kirkcaldy grasps victory
Anther bumper week at Hopton-on-Sea, the biggest turnout so far this indoor season with 75 teams competing (writes bowls manager Les Gillett).
What a brilliant week, all rinks were jam packed, with evening sessions on the menu also, it was a spectators delight to savour.
Some fabulous bowls in the group stages saw the top 16 places go down to shots difference.
But it was a team north of the Border, Kirkcaldy, and a team from Milton Keynes, Wolverton, that contested the final tie.
In front of a packed arena, it was Kirkcaldy that came out of the blocks with a 4-0 start, soon to be pegged back to Wolverton taking a one-shot advantage going into the final end.
With Kirkcaldy holding a single, it was looking like an extra end, but with pinpoint accuracy with his first bowl, the Kirkcaldy skip draw the second shot required to win the match.
