Looking after younger customers with Hydra Juice
Soft drinks supplier, Sunmagic Juices, is helping operators address concerns around proper hydration levels in children with its Hydra Juice range.
A study published in Physiology & Behaviour* reported that 17% of children begin the day dehydrated, with this number jumping to 40% by the end of the day. The study also found that most water intake occurred during mealtimes, indicating a strong reliance on external cues to manage hydration.
The British Dietetic Association (BDA)** recommends that drinks should account for 70-80% of hydration needs, while water rich foods such as soup make up the remaining 20-30%. Recommended adequate water intake varies by age and gender, varying from 1280ml for 4-8 year olds to 2000ml for 14+ year olds.
These figures highlight how vital proper hydration is amongst children. In order to encourage more regular drinking, operators should ensure their offering includes flavour-led products to appeal to young people’s preferences. To bridge this gap, Hydra Juice has been designed to balance taste and hydration, made with a 50%-50% blend of juice and water.
Hannah Richardson, Marketing Executive at Sunmagic Juices, comments on the appeal of Hydra Juice: “We’ve developed Hydra Juice with health in mind. This drink is naturally lower in sugar and calories than traditional juice to support healthier choices, meaning it will meet the nutritional expectations of parents and carers while still appealing to the young people drinking it. Each 300ml bottle counts as one of the recommended five per day too!”
The juices come in six flavours - Orange, Apple, Apple & Mango, Tropical, Mixed Berry, Strawberry & Cherry.
